Oscars & Valentine's Day

I'll make this one quick... The Academy Awards seem to be like Valentine's Day. It's become popular to voice your disdain of the awards show. It's the cool thing to criticize anyone who might watch the show. Journalists, bloggers, political cartoonists... anyone with an opinion, freely paints the people who watch the Oscars as "celebrity obsessed". How about they just want a laugh? I thought the auto tune of Harry Potter was pretty damn funny. Honestly, if you really hate it that much - as the Oatmeal would say - shut the hell up and treat it like any other TV show... CHANGE THE CHANNEL. Then again... that's just my opinion~

Post-Post Note: After reading this again, I must say that we do have a bit of a celebrity obsessed culture. The popularity of celebrity reality shows prove that... But in this case, I am specifically talking about the Academy Awards. Personally, I watch TV - a few reality shows, mostly sitcoms these days... and I rarely go to the theater to see movies. I watch the show for a few reasons one of them being that I get to see the content of the movies that have been made in the past year. I really want to see God of Love because of the short clip and Luke Matheny's acceptance speech. It also reminded me that I still haven't seen the latest Harry Potter film [for shame, I know!!]. Anyway, I stand by my point.

Good Day

Today is a good day. The last couple weeks have been pretty crappy. I mean... They just haven't been... that great. I needed a day like today. I needed a day where things actually went really well. I took my time getting to work but was still 10 minutes early. I stopped for gas and it was the best weather. [Note: After experiencing a low of -13 farenheit, 40 degrees farenheit feels like 90.] The wind was really soft and "warm". Barely any traffic on the way in... It was wonderful.

The best news of the day came from Amazon. After reviewing their policies, Ian and I had given up hope that they could help us since we are in Canada. But, due to a helpful friend of my sister's, I decided to call them this morning. They are shipping out a brand new Kindle free of charge. [Just received the shipping confirmation!!] *sigh* I can go back to be the loving owner of a Kindle.

And Ian and I can go back to being loving significant otters.

What else... I got to talk to my mom, that's always good! The work day is almost over. I am off to the office supply store [love fresh office supplies]. Then to pick up Ian and go take a shack shot. It's also a long weekend! The US gets President's Day off and we get Family Day off... Yay!

It's Beach Weather!

It is so nice outside right now. I didn't realize it until this winter... I get used to the extreme cold temperatures that when it warms up... even just a little bit, it feels wonderful. Today it's in the high 40s and it's like beach weather!

Framing Walk Through

The walk through with the site super was a bit of a snooze. This was mainly because we've already walked through the house [but don't tell our builder that!]. The only big changes were that they have done the insulation and framed out the coffered ceiling. As we drove up, they were unloading the drywall. =]

I also got in touch with our designer and we are moving forward with the stone around the entertainment center. I think we are going to go with this color.

Creativity

Let's face it - I'm pretty creative... a little. Bursts of creativity are let out every once and awhile. The wedding... I got to be fancy with that. Cooper's Pirate Party was another outlet. I made Ian's Valentine's Day card that I posted below. But it's not enough. I hold back and it's a bit frustrating. Mainly because I don't want to spend the money on it - and yes, I know it doesn't have to be expensive but it's not that. I don't want a penny going to it because most of my creative feelings have to do with the house. It's so close I can taste it. I think I'm going to start writing down the projects I think of. They are starting to pile up.

I think it drills down to the fact that I will finally have a space that is mine. [oh and Ian's...] I will be able to personalize it. Really make it my own. *sigh* 5 months and 12 days...

On a side note, the Westminster Dog Show is currently being held. Ian and I watched the Toy Group last night. Awesome.

Fun With Furniture

Last night, Ian finished his graph paper project. I believe it started with Erik. He showed Ian how to make a floor plan and furniture out of graph paper. Then you can play with different layouts without having to move actual furniture. Ian has been working on this for awhile... He has mapped out our entire first floor and I helped make the furniture. It's just one more step in making sure we quickly settle in to our new house. Chaos makes Ian anxious. =P

Thank You Ian!

Ian has rescued this site by using his skills in CSS to make it look good. Hopefully it displays correctly for everyone... I love it!

Half Wall Love

We walked through our ENTIRE house today. This means we ventured [bravely] into the basement. I was very surprised to see that the basement floor was in and the furnaced was installed. That was pretty crazy to see. The basement is H.U.G.E. It's one thing to see it on a drawing and another in person. I am sure once we have lived in the house and filled the basement with drywall and furniture it will seem small... but right now it's gigantic. I'm also very happy that we installed the big window for the future bedroom. It will make me feel loads safer.

The other surprise was that they have installed the columns to the half wall and done the framing for it. I am in *love* with it. It is much better than I was imagining. We extended it to be able to fit our couch and it didn't mess with the walkways. I believe the peninsula will be towards the middle of the half wall... so if you're sitting at the breakfast bar, the TV would be visible. It's a really good layout.

Under Construction... Again.

This day has not started out well. I had a very vivid nightmare last night... so I'm really tired this morning. I clicked on the site today and found out that my owly background is no longer hosted. Sad. While putting up the temporary fix, I hit something that made a whole slew of changes and now I've gone down a road I can't make a u-turn on. This is the temporary, temporary fix. Enjoy. Meh.

Latest Shack Shot

The progress on the house has been slow but steady. Siding is complete on all but one side. Still need to get brick on the right and front side of the house... for whatever reason it's come to a standstill. We do know that the electrical, plumbing and heating systems are in. The last time we walked through the electrical was almost finished... we were mainly guessing but it looked like some outlets still needed to go in - possibly telephone, cable or internet. Some of the switches for the speaker system were in. It did look like they were pretty generous (or just to code) with plugs in every room. The small guest bedroom upstairs had 5 outlets. Seeing the tons of switches made the house seem huge for whatever reason. I bet my electrician in the sky is looking over their work and smiting them when necessary. Well, less than 6 months to go... Ian and I actually started talking about the time we would take off for the move. C.r.a.z.y.

Simply. Awesome.

Max Quacks - Yeah, I'm Adorable

He was mighty interested in either the snow or his hand. My guess is his hand. =P

We Have Siding!

Better Map Of Big Storm

We are roughly where the red arrow is pointing to. I think I will be staying home from work tomorrow... hope to get home soon!
