Kitchen Adventures: Sweet and Sour Veggies

Ian picked this one out. I wasn't a huge fan of it... but it had pretty enjoyable parts.

Ingredients: Szechuan Pepper, Cooked Brown Rice, Lemon, Sweet Chili Sauce, Eggs, Red Pepper, Yellow Pepper, Asparagus (not in season, we used Broccolini), Red Chili, Ginger Root, Garlic, Sesame Oil, Baby Corn, Cilantro, Corn Flour, Pineapple Chunks in juice, Honey, Sherry Vinegar, Bean Sprouts, Carrots, Sugar Snap Peas, Mint, Lime, Soy Sauce
Ingredients sound good so.. why didn't I like it? A couple reasons... I've decided I'm not a huge fan of Szechuan Pepper which was used in the rice. It has a floral taste to it and took away from how great the simple brown rice was. I also decided that I'm not a huge fan of Sesame Oil. It's one of the healthiest oils out there.. but I think it has a burnt sesame taste. Part of it was used to dress the salad of shredded carrots and peas. I think I would have liked the salad had it not been for that burnt sesame taste. This recipe is still a keeper though. The pineapple was the biggest surprise. It soaked up the sauce but held its own flavor. Super tasty. 481 calories for a bowl of veggies, rice and salad.
